The Funamviolistas
Mayte Olmedilla has been a member of The Funamviolistas since its inception in 2012. This company, known for its blend of physical, gestural, and musical theater, provided the foundation for Mayte Olmedilla’s development as an interdisciplinary actor and musical performer. It also paved the way for her later specialization as a clown and buffoon.
The company produced two major physical-theater works: Funamviolistas (2012) and Contraescena (2017), along with various other projects that showcased their distinctive hybrid language. These include Funamviolistas Tango, Funamviolistas Educational Format, Funamviolistas Symphonic, Music for Animals in collaboration with the Abycine Film Festival in Albacete, and several concert formats presented at festivals such as Estival Cuenca, Música de Úbeda, and Música de Barbate.
In addition to her artistic growth, her time with the company equipped Mayte Olmedilla with valuable experience in theater management, production, and distribution. The Funamviolistas performed both nationally and internationally, with shows in Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Argentina, and Guatemala. The company earned numerous awards, including Spain’s Max Award for Performing Arts and Argentina’s Florencio Sánchez Award, where they competed alongside John Malkovich in the same category.
Currently, Mayte Olmedilla has paused her activities with the company due to her residency in the U.S., though a collaborative project between The Funamviolistas and the Orquesta de Navarra is scheduled for May 2025.
